BMWRDC Thruxton. Webb wins !

The BMWRDC final races took place yesterday at Thruxton , a circuit renowned for its high speed , bumps and dramatic races. In glorious sunny weather Team Webb with their BMW M3's supported by GTS Motorsport, arrived looking for its third victory of the year.

With no testing at the circuit , qualifying would be all about remembering where the track went, finding a clear lap amongst the slower cars and having one banzai attack. Having walked the track earlier the Tommy and James were at the front of the queue ready to go. With a great lap chasing arch rival Garrie Whittaker , Tommy almost made pole while Jimmy made a last lap effort to get third five hundredths quicker than former champ Colin Wells !

With time at a premium on a day with qualy and two races in the space of three hours, GTS Motorsport got stuck into changing the diff on Tommy's car while Jimmy checked his data looking for that extra bit of time.

Race one came and the drama started ! Tommy dragged his start on the green flag lap and when the real start happened he boggeed down again and was swallowed by the quick starting Jimmy and the following pack.

Worse was to come as they enterd Cobb corner when Tommy got punted by a close following Ian Crisp and spun in front of the field ! Fortunately they all avoided him and he had it all to to in a strong recovery to fifth. Meanwhile Jimmy was in second under close attack from both Dave Kempton and Colin Wells. The battle raged for most of the race until a late lunge by Colin Wells gave Jimmy breathing space to consoldate his best finish since winning one of the opening rounds at Brands .

Race two brought even more drama !!

As the lights changed , Jimmy stalled on the front row ! Fortunately being on the outside everybody was able to get round him and he eventually pulled away at the back of the field. This time Tommy made a good getaway and was quickly on the leaders tail when 3 laps into the race all hell broke loose after Mark Astalls Class b car straightlined the chicane, broke his sump on the kerbs and dumped oil all the way to the complex. The leading group arrived at the chicane at full pace to find oil everwhere ! Fortunately nobody came to grief and the race was redflagged to clean up the mess.

The restart did Tommy no favours as he lined up 4th in the oil and dust and had to get to the complex before he could even see the track ! The first few laps were difficult as everyone tried to find the limits of the oil covered track. Class A champion Whittaker was the first to crack having a huge sideways moment at the chicane , Tommy and Kempton were alongside him as they went into Allard three abreast. Tommy emerged in the lead with Whittaker shuffled down to third.

Tommy then got his head down and pushed hard to the finishing flag to win his first race of the year with Whittaker back on his bumper. Jimmy meanwhile was involved in a frantic battle for fourth with Ian Crisp and Colin Wells  and eventually had to settle for a hard fought fifth.

A fantastic finish to the year for Team Webb, Martin,Caroline,Tommy and Jimmy and GTS Motorsport.
